Dr Sophie Ricketts BMedSci MBBS Hons FRACS

ARC Plastic Surgery in Shepparton introduces specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Sophie Ricketts. Sophie completed her MBBS at the University of Tasmania in 2001. After graduating, she undertook further study and training in General Surgery, followed by specialist Plastic Surgery Training in Melbourne, under the auspices of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, between 2007 and 2010.

During this period, Sophie worked under the tutelage of world leaders in reconstructive and plastic surgery within major plastic surgery centres in metropolitan Victoria, including the Alfred, Royal Children’s, Royal Melbourne and St Vincent’s Hospitals respectively. During this phase of her professional development, Sophie was selected to initiate the Expanded Settings Training Program in Victoria, a federally-funded initiative of the College of Surgeons aimed at integrating specialist plastic surgery training and trainees with private practice. Sophie is now a member of both the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Sophie has undertaken research in the areas of burns, limb replantation post-trauma, genital reconstructive surgery, and the role of the private sector in plastic surgery training. She is currently involved as an associate researcher in the “Neopec” project, whose mission is to assist breast cancer patients in the ‘regrowth’ of replacement breast tissue after mastectomy.

She has presented her research at national conferences and has authored publications in international medical journals. She maintains a keen interest in plastic and aesthetic surgery by attending national and international conferences where new technologies in plastic and aesthetic surgery have been introduced. In addition to her specialist plastic surgery training she has received further teaching in craniomaxillofacial injuries, burn management, and aesthetic plastic surgery.

As a plastic surgeon, Sophie’s key interests are breast, body, skin and general reconstructive surgery. While surgical skills, aesthetic judgement, sense of beauty and ability to visualise the end result are basic requirements for plastic surgery, it is Sophie’s personalised care and foremost concern for patient safety and comfort that characterises her basic approach to the specialty. With this as the cornerstone of her practice, she looks forward to servicing the Shepparton community.

Sophie is available for consultation at ARC Plastic Surgery’s Shepparton rooms.
