Mr Richard Bloom MBBS Hons FRACS

Mr Richard Bloom is a leading specialist plastic surgeon. With expertise in all areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery, his particular interests include breast surgery, facial rejuvenation, and body contouring surgery, particularly for patients who have experienced a massive weight loss.

Having trained in all major plastic surgery centres in Melbourne, including The Alfred, St Vincents, The Royal Children’s Hospital and The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Richard attained his fellowship in plastic surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2002. He then undertook further training in hand surgery at the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby UK, and cosmetic surgery in San Francisco, prior to commencing practice as a plastic surgeon in Melbourne in 2003.

In addition to his private practice within ARC Plastic Surgery, in Hawthorn East, Richard has a public appointment at the Alfred Hospital, where he serves on the Victorian Melanoma Service, and is chief investigator for the Multicentre Sentinel Lymphadenectomy Trial II, an international trial examining the management of melanoma. He is also responsible for the recent establishment of a multidisciplinary Breast Care Unit at the Alfred Hospital, which combines the expertise of various health professionals to treat patients diagnosed with breast cancer, and to offer them the opportunity for breast reconstruction.

Excellence, integrity, professionalism and the highest level of patient care are the keystones of Richard’s practice.

“The benefits of plastic surgery can be phenomenal,” he says, “However, the decision to undergo any procedure can be daunting and difficult, and it is my job to ensure that each patient is fully assessed and informed so as to achieve the best possible outcome for themselves. Whilst most patients can definitely improve their appearance, it is better to have no surgery than inappropriate surgery.”

An active member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Richard has been the Victorian Board Chairman for the last three years and was recently elected to be the National Board Chairman in Plastic Surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Richard has previously served as the younger member on the council of the ASPS.

In his free time, Richard enjoys cycling, travelling, and spending time with his wife, Lisa Freeman, a Cosmetic Physician at ARC Plastic Surgery, and their three children.

Richard is available for consultation at ARC Plastic Surgery’s Hawthorn East & Shepparton rooms.
